Reuge music boxes: Swiss mechanics that play Reuge has been building music boxes in Sainte-Croix, in the Swiss Jura, since 1865. These are genuine musical movements — cylinder, steel comb, spring — set into fine wooden cases and collector's boxes. They do not reproduce music: they play it, note by note, the way a repeating pocket watch once did. What we offer Reuge singing bird boxes, in which a feathered automaton rises from the lid, sings while moving beak, wings and tail, and disappears again; and Reuge music boxes in walnut and burl, such as the Greenwich line, where the quality lies in the case and in the number of notes on the comb. Every piece carries the manufacture's serial number. A gift that lasts a generation A music box is wound by hand and runs for decades without a battery. It is the gift given for a birth, an anniversary or a graduation, and then stays in the family: the mechanism can be repaired, and the people who build it are still there.
