Sizes: the one thing worth checking first

Chokers carry three rings and the clasp moves to the one you want: at 36-37 cm they sit tight at the base of the throat, at 41-42 cm they drop to the collarbone. Bracelets adjust at 16,5, 17,5 and 19 cm. For rings, Italian sizes count the inner circumference in millimetres minus forty — a 52 mm finger is a French 52 and an Italian 12, while Germany and Austria quote the inner diameter instead. Materials and hallmarks

The gold is 18 carat, stamped 750; the silver is 925, sterling. Those marks sit beside the maker’s identification stamp, which in Italy is a number followed by the two-letter code of the province where the workshop is registered: together they say what the metal is and who answers for the piece. The stones are natural, so colour and shade shift slightly between examples. Every piece is identified by its reference — GCNUD3RTP, for instance — which is the code to quote when you write to us.
