Dodo Mariani: Jewelry as Emotion, from Milan with History
In the 1960s, as Milan was becoming the capital of Italian fashion, a young Milanese goldsmith was making a name for himself with an unusual signature: Dodo, with a diamond set before his name. This was Dodo Mariani, and that signature-jewel already encapsulated everything he would become: an eclectic, visionary artist capable of traversing different worlds without ever losing the thread of talent.
A History of Extraordinary Collaborations
Trained in his father's workshop since the 1960s, Dodo Mariani soon became a collaborator with De Beers for the diamond collections of the '60s and '70s. His cybernetic animals from 1967 — in full robotic style — captured the attention of the international press. In 1978, Corriere della Sera and Vogue Italia dedicated entire editorials to him, while Panorama compared him to new names in Italian fashion like Gianfranco Ferré.
The collaborations are countless: Adriano Celentano wore Dodo Mariani in one of his films; Lady Diana wore earrings from the brand; the family's jewel was presented to Pope John Paul II and the sketch is still preserved in the Vatican Museums. In 2004, the Perlage collection in white gold and diamonds was born, in collaboration with Moët & Chandon.
The Motivated Jewel: Telling Your Own Story
Dodo Mariani's greatest insight was the concept of the motivated jewel: a precious object that is not just an ornament but carries with it a meaning, an emotion, a personal story. This idea, revolutionary for the '70s when it was developed, has today become the dominant language of accessible and customizable jewelry.
The Dodo Mariani charms — cast using the ancient lost-wax process and hand-finished — are available in 925 silver, enameled silver, and 9 kt gold. Letters, numbers, symbols, animals: each element combines with others to create a unique jewel that tells the story of its wearer. Customizable bracelets complete the system, with infinite composition possibilities.
Santa Margherita Ligure: The New Chapter
In 2016, Dodo Mariani opened a new showroom in Santa Margherita Ligure, in Liguria — just a few kilometers from Genoa, where Cicala Gioiellerie has its roots. A geographical meeting that reflects a cultural closeness: attention to quality, detail, and the history that each object carries with it.
The brand is still active and constantly evolving, with collections ranging from nature to space fantasy, always maintaining that unmistakable signature that has made the history of Italian jewelry.
